The pass provides unlimited travel over its covered network for three, four, six, eight or 15 days. Coverage is broad, but “Swiss Travel Pass included” does not mean every premium seat, cable car or mountain summit costs nothing.

Swiss Travel Pass Flex vs. Consecutive Days

A pass is valuable when it matches the itinerary—not simply because Switzerland has excellent trains. Continuous days favor frequent movement; Flex days suit longer stays with non-travel days between them.

Choose three, four, six, eight or 15 consecutive days in 1st or 2nd Class. Current sample adult prices begin at CHF 254 in 2nd Class and CHF 405 in 1st Class for three days. The four-day pass is CHF 309 or CHF 492 respectively.

SELECT DAYS IN ONE MONTH

Swiss Travel Pass Flex

Use three, four, six, eight or 15 independently selected travel days within one month. It costs more than the equivalent continuous pass but can work well for chalet stays, hiking days or a cruise interval between rail journeys.

PAY HALF AS YOU GO

Swiss Half Fare Card

The one-month visitor card starts at CHF 150 and discounts most trains, buses, boats and mountain railways by 50%. It often suits a slower itinerary, but every discounted journey still needs its own valid ticket.

BEST OVERALL VALUE

2nd Class

Clean, comfortable and frequent, with ample seating on most routes outside peak periods. It is the practical choice for families and travelers who would rather invest in hotels, mountain excursions or longer stays.

SPACE & QUIET

1st Class

Typically provides wider seats, fewer seats across the carriage and more room for work or luggage. First Class is attractive on long travel days and busy routes, but it does not replace a compulsory panorama reservation.

UNDER AGE 25

Youth & Family Benefits

Swiss Travel Pass Youth provides a 30% discount for travelers under 25. Eligible parents can request the complimentary Swiss Family Card so their own children under 16 travel with them free on covered services.

Regular Swiss Trains

Most domestic intercity and regional trains do not require a seat reservation. Board a valid class, choose an available seat and show the digital or printed pass with identification when inspected.

Optional Reservations

An optional domestic seat reservation is generally CHF 5 where offered. It may help a group remain together on a busy route, but frequent Swiss departures usually make advance reservations unnecessary.

Panorama & International Trains

Glacier Express, Bernina Express panorama cars and selected premium services require paid reservations or supplements. TGV Lyria, EuroCity and other international trains follow their own reservation and ticket rules.

How to Activate and Use a Swiss Travel Pass

Buy only after the itinerary and start date are stable. The Swiss Travel Pass can generally be purchased up to 11 months ahead and is issued electronically. Keep the QR code or PDF accessible offline and carry the matching passport or identity document.

CONTINUOUS PASS

Confirm the Start Date

The validity runs for consecutive calendar days beginning on the selected date. A late-night arrival can waste a day if the pass is activated earlier than the first substantial journey.

FLEX PASS

Activate Each Chosen Day

Register a travel day before boarding and keep the confirmation available for inspection. Swiss Travel Pass Flex is not currently supported inside SBB Mobile in the same way as an eligible account-linked continuous pass.

ON THE TRAIN

Show Pass and Identification

Charge the phone, retain an offline or printed backup and present the pass with identification. A pass displayed in SBB Mobile generally requires that it was purchased online while signed into the same account.

The Swiss Travel Pass is designed for visitors whose permanent residence is outside Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Travelers should carry the passport or identity document associated with the pass.

Does the Swiss Travel Pass include the Glacier Express?

The pass covers the basic rail journey on the Glacier Express route, but the train’s compulsory seat reservation and any service surcharge remain additional.

Is Jungfraujoch fully included?

No. The pass covers or discounts different portions of the journey depending on the route, while the mountain railway above the covered point requires a discounted ticket. Benefits should be checked for the exact travel date.

Do children travel free with a parent?

Eligible children under 16 can travel free with a parent holding a qualifying Swiss Travel System ticket when the complimentary Swiss Family Card is issued. Other children may qualify for reduced fares.

Should I choose 1st or 2nd Class?

Second Class is comfortable and offers the best value. First Class usually provides wider seating, quieter cars and more space, which can be worthwhile for longer journeys, busy travel dates or travelers carrying luggage.
